Real name, Marion Chesney, a Scotswoman, known for her Hamish McBeth series. Since 1992 she has a new character, Mrs. Agatha Raisin. Raisin is a 53 year old, divorced owner of a successful public relations firm in London. She takes her retirement to a cottage in the Cotswolds where she uses her unlimited amount of irritating, obnoxious, bullying tactics and money to push her way into a prominent place in her new village. But, it's her almost unshakeable ego that makes her endearing, in spite of herself, as she falls on her face again and again, with one outrageous scheme after another to win a contest, control a club, outshine her neighbors and take her rightful place in the lives of an eccentric and wily bunch of village characters.
